Free Training Sessions Connect Military Skills to Hollywood Success

The Connection You Didn't Know Existed
If you've served in the military, you already have what it takes to work in film. Discipline. Teamwork. Leadership. Problem-solving under pressure. These aren't just military values—they're the backbone of every successful film production.
The New Mexico Film Office's Operation Soundstage program is launching two free virtual training sessions specifically designed for veterans interested in exploring film careers. Whether you're looking for a career change, a second act, or just curious about what opportunities exist in New Mexico's thriving film industry, these sessions are for you.
What You'll Learn
Session 1: Veterans: Film Jobs & FCAP Overview Wednesday, November 12 | 6–7 PM
Local producer Sam Tischler will walk you through how a film set actually works—the departments, the roles, the hierarchy. You'll get an insider's look at what different jobs entail and where veterans typically find success. Plus, you'll learn about the Film Crew Advancement Program (FCAP), which offers on-the-job training and a clear pathway to career growth in New Mexico's film industry.
Session 2: Veterans: Film Union Panel Wednesday, November 19 | 6–7 PM
Hear directly from the people who run the unions: SAG-AFTRA, IATSE Local 480, the International Cinematographers Guild, and Teamsters Local 399. They'll share what union membership means, the benefits available to you, and exactly how to break into the industry as a veteran.
Why Now?
New Mexico is experiencing a film boom. Productions are happening year-round, and the industry desperately needs skilled, reliable crew members. Veterans bring a work ethic and professionalism that sets them apart. If you're ready to explore what's possible, these free sessions are the perfect first step.
How to Register
Both sessions are completely free and held virtually via Zoom. Registration links will be sent the week before each event.
